Calgary students hold 24-hour famine fundraiser to build Nicaragua school

Avoiding food for an entire day may seem like a daunting task, but for students at a Calgary school, it was worth it to help those in need across the world. Students at Calgary French and International School got a lesson in hunger during a 24-hour famine Friday. The student-led initiative was organized to raise awareness and $13,000 to build a school in an adopted village in Nicaragua. As part of the initiative, Grade 6-12 students of the school, at 700 77 St. S.W., are fasting from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m.
