Amazing news about CFIS's Junior Concert Band!

Last week, CFIS's Junior Concert Band (Grades 7 and 8) participated at the provincial band festival, known as The Alberta Festival of Bands, sponsored but the Alberta Band Association (ABA).

The students' performance was awe-inspiring - they played with passion, emotion and precision. Each of three judges awarded them a "superior" rating, which is the highest possible rating. They also had to perform an on-the-spot sight reading test with another adjudicator, who judged them on their ability to read music. They scored perfectly in that regard as well, which gave them another "superior" rating! As a result of their four "superior" ratings, they received the Gold Superior Band award - a very high honor. But there is MORE!

CFIS's Music Director, Mr. Andrew Bacsalmasi, known throughout the school by students and adults alike as "Mr. B.", just received an e-mail from one of the festival organizers. She informed him that our Junior Concert Band will also be receiving the ABA Adjudicator's Choice Award. This is awarded to the top band of the entire week of the entire festival. Put another way, this means that our students' performance was chosen as the best among hundreds of other bands.

We will be receiving a notarized commemorative special trophy in the mail, later this week. The CFIS Music Program goes from strength to strength, starting with the tutelage of our youngest students by Mme Bonnie Jaycock, and extending to their years with CFIS's artist-in-residence Gerry Hebert, and of course our beloved Mr. B.
