Giving of your time and talent
Help continue to build our vibrant school community by becoming a CFIS volunteer!
Our school is always looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks. You can contribute your time and talents for an hour, a day, or for the full school year - whatever fits your schedule.
Police Information Checks
All adult who volunteer in the school or with the students must have a valid Police Information Check (PIC). Once obtained, a PIC is valid for five years.
The processing period for PICs can take four to six weeks, so please fill out your PIC application several weeks before your volunteer event. A PIC must be on file with the school in order to volunteer.
To streamline the application process, CFIS has created an online account with the Calgary Police Service. The school will cover the $15 administration fee per PIC application.
To obtain a PIC, first email Mme Sylvia Zaal (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mme Julie Chassagne (email@example.com) with your full legal name as it appears on your government-issued ID, or drop by the main office in person on school days between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to obtain a volunteer verification letter.
Once you have your verification letter, you may apply online with the CPS, if you live within Calgary city limits, or apply in person at an RCMP detachment, if you live outside of Calgary.
Apply online with the Calgary Police Service (CPS)
Go to the CPS website at https://policeinformationcheck.calgarypolice.ca/ and select <Perform personal police check>.
Follow the instructions on the website. You will be required to upload your CFIS volunteer verification letter and the appropriate identification. Types of identification accepted by CPS are:
- Driver’s license
- Alberta Personal Health Card
- Photo identification from a registry office
- Native status card
- Citizenship card
- Firearms P.A.L.
- Military identification card
Apply in person at a RCMP location if you live outside of Calgary
- You will be required to provide your volunteer verification letter and the appropriate identification to the RCMP at that time.
If you apply for your PIC online, CPS will directly bill the school. If you apply in person to CPS or the RCMP, you will have to pay the $15 fee and then bring the receipt to the main office for reimbursement.
