Frequently Asked Questions
Our most common intake years are preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten.
All families, including those with children currently attending CFIS in other grades, are encouraged to apply to preschool or junior kindergarten whenever possible as only a small number of spaces are available in kindergarten. We can experience change in enrolment numbers for varied reasons, and applications are accepted and encouraged throughout the year.
As it relates to all applications received prior to the deadline, applying early has no impact on the consideration of the application. All applications received in time are given equal consideration. You should only apply for the year you are considering, and not earlier.
When coming for your assessment at CFIS, it is best to ensure your child is relaxed, well rested, well nourished and eager to participate in the experience of the day. There are no practice tests or exams your child can do to be prepared.
Calgary French & International School students are diverse and unique, demonstrating many varied talents and skills. Our students are able to work cooperatively, capable of managing strong academic programming, enthusiastic and willing to give their best efforts in all areas. Our students are compassionate, respectful and empathetic to others.
Our philosophy is that homework is meant to reinforce and support the learning that is occurring at school. As such, our students will be capable of completing their homework independently, and assigned homework will be of this nature. Support from teachers is available, if this is not the case, during school hours.
In our entry-level grades, preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten, no previous experience in French is required.
Starting in Grade 1, and for intake up to Grade 12, all students must be attending a French or French immersion environment, or be native French speakers, to make an application to attend CFIS.
